개요 | 높은 산의 숲속이나 능선에서 자라는 낙엽 떨기나무이다. 높이 1.0~1.5m이고 가지가 많으며 곧추서고 잔가지에 가시가 없는 것이 있으나 줄기 밑부분에는 잔가시가 많다. 잎은 어긋나며 3~7개의 작은잎으로 구성된 홀수 깃꼴겹잎이다. 작은잎은 넓은 타원형 또는 난형이며 잎끝이 뾰족하거나 둔하고 길이 1.5~6.0cm, 표면에 털이 없으며 뒷면은 녹색이고 간혹 털이 있으며 샘점이 없고 잔 톱니가 있다. 엽축에 가시털이 있으며 턱잎은 화살 모양이고 가장자리에 샘털이 있다. 꽃은 5~6월에 피는데 지름 5cm로서 새 가지 끝에 1~2개가 달리며 작은꽃자루는 가시가 있다. 꽃잎은 넓은 도란형으로서 끝이 오목하며 장미색 또는 흰색이고 꽃받침과 길이가 비슷하다. 열매는 난상 타원형으로서 꽃받침 밑에서 갑자기 좁아지며 길이 1.5~2.0cm, 7~8월에 붉게 익는다. 우리나라 전역에 나며, 러시아 사할린, 아무르, 우수리, 캄차카, 일본, 중국, 북아메리카, 유럽, 중앙아시아 등에 분포한다. 이 종은 낙엽성이고 꽃잎이 5장인 점에서 상록성이고 꽃이 겹꽃인 월계화와 구분된다. 관상용으로 심는다. 민둥인가목이라고도 부른다. |

Flowers solitary, or 2 or 3 and fasciculate, 3.5?5 cm in diam.; pedicel 2?3.5 cm, densely glandular-pubescent; bracts ovate or ovate-lanceolate, margin glandular serrate or incised, apex acuminate or caudate. Hypanthium ellipsoid, usually glabrous, rarely glandular-pubescent. Sepals 5, lanceolate, leaflike, abaxially pubescent, glandular, and sparsely bristly, adaxially densely pubescent, margin entire. Petals 5, pink, rarely white, fragrant, obovate, base broadly cuneate, apex emarginate. Styles free, shorter than stamens, pubescent. Hip red, pyriform, long ellipsoid, or obovoid, 1?1.5 cm in diam., with a distinct neck, shiny, glabrous or rarely slightly glandular, with persistent, erect sepals. Fl. Jun?Jul, fr. This species is widely distributed in the N temperate zone and has a great morphological variation. The varieties described by various authors are difficult to distinguish, owing to the presence of intermediate forms, and are all reduced to synonymy for the time being in this account. |
